Why Fluid Power? |
The many advantages and benefits of fluid power to users includes:
Multiplication and variation of force
Multiply rotary or linear force from a fraction to several hundred tons of output.
Easy, accurate control
Large forces may be accurately started, stopped, accelerated, decelerated, reversed or positioned. Infinitely
variable analog and on/off digital control are possible. It is achievable to instantly reverse motion within less than
half a revolution.
Multi-function control
Combined with fluid power manifold valves, power and the control of numerous machines or machine functions
from a single hydraulic pump or air compressor is possible.
High horsepower, low weight ratio
So compact and lightweight are pneumatic components that a five horsepower hydraulic motor can be held in the
palm of your hand.
Low speed torque
Even at low speeds, hydraulic or air motors can produce large amounts of torque. Hydraulic and air motors in
some cases are capable of maintaining torque at zero speed without overheating.
Constant force or torque
This is an attribute unique to fluid power.
Safety in hazardous environments
Because of it is inherently spark-free and can tolerate high temperatures, fluid power can be utilized in chemical
plants, mines, near explosives and in paint applications.
Established standards and engineering
Through the NFPA the industry of fluid power has established design and performance standards for hydraulic
and pneumatic products.
